Winter Typology – Two Different Capsules

Winter typology, similar body shape and different capsules?

During the summer season, two of the ladies in my revolutionary community of women on the verge of making peace with their body asked me to create a wardrobe capsules. So that they can wear it during the warm season.

What was interesting is that both ladies had similar body shape (almost the same height, shoulders broader than the hips, full bust, waistline pretty defined and small hips) and the same natural color palette (winter typology). But what was world apart was their narratives: their lifestyle and the story they wanted to tell about themselves when they were wearing an outfit.

So I took this as an opportunity to share with you that creating a wardrobe capsule is so unique and adapted to your body, narratives and typology.

Body proportions – what guidelines to follow?

The intention in terms of cuts and design for the bottoms was to create volume around the hips. We did that by choosing:

  • pleated skirts or dresses (the more the better)

Dresses with volume around the hips, either with marked waistline like the zebra print dress and with pinches to add volume from the waist down (the lavender dress) or

  • dresses with no waistline and ruffles at the hem (look gorgeous on you)

  • pants with a lot of pincers around the hips

Another tip for the inverted triangle body with small hips is to wear pants with top pockets on your buttocks.

For the tops, my advise for both the ladies was to show their beautiful and unique shoulders in

  • narrow and deep neckline or V-line (wrap-up longer tops look amazing on my ladies)

  • round deep neckline

Other tips for the inverted triangle body is to play with prints, namely prints on the bottom and tops with no prints, this will draw the attention to the hips. If we choose for a more casual style, bulky pockets on the sides of the skirts or dresses are also recommendable. Longer tops are preferable when paired with pants but when paired with pleated skirts you can opt for shorter tops as well or tops tucked in the skirt. Ruffles – that are usually found in a romantic wardrobe capsule – around the hips are also suitable for the inverted triangle body. But none of the ladies was keen on having a romantic capsule so I kept that for the next one.

Wardrobe personality in a nutshell!

We spoke about wardrobe personality before and how much this impact on the way we dress. This is also what makes us unique. Have a look if you are still in doubt because your wardrobe personality will be an essential element when choosing your garments.

Now coming back to the two ladies…

A. Classic style with one twist

One of the ladies with winter typology has a classic style, does not like striking colours or prints, she could even say natural colors and basic versatile items are her best friends. She need to follow the guidelines in the dress code when at work and this means she will dress formally every working day with some exceptions on casual Fridays.

For her I created a wardrobe capsule made almost entirely of classic garments with one exception when I allowed myself to be dramatic (the zebra dress). Also the colors were mostly neutral: white, black, navy, icy grey, icy blue, except for the red skirt that my client loved.

I obtained 43 interchangeable outfits from 6 tops, 6 bottoms, 3 dresses and a vest coat. And I fall back in love with the black and white outfits, the shades of grey and added just a bit of colour with classic red and icy blue.

B. Casual style with artsy details

The other lady adores bright colors and her style is more casual with some artsy elements. So I could play with icy green and brighter shades of green, lavender, royal blue, icy blue, dark grey, black and pure white! And what a joy that was: to create two similar wardrobes in terms of the body proportions (cuts and designs) but at the same time so different in terms of style!
