Transitioning to the Perfect Wardrobe without Discarding your Clothes

Transitioning to the wardrobe of your dreams does not mean…

…you have to discard all your clothes at once.

Let’s say that a fashion stylist run a color analysis test and you discovered your typology is summer. You then realised that you have a plethora of colors in your wardrobe that are suitable for other typologies, not for summer typology. First thing that comes to your mind is that you have to discard these items because they are not part of a summer typology palette.

Here are some examples of bottoms from my wardrobe in colours that suit:

  1. a spring typology (yellow green or lime green skirt) and
  2. autumn typology (green moss pants)

And I am falling in any of these categories.

Do I need to discard them in the process of transitioning to a new wardrobe?

I say a loud no! As long as these are bottoms, you can choose a top in your summer colors to match those bottoms. Now the question is what color from the pastel cold palette (this is mainly the summer typology palette) suit this lime polka dot skirt and moss green paperbag pants?!

How to match a skirt in a color outside of your typology’s palette?

For the lime polka dot, transitioning would mean to match it with either

  1. a turquoise sweater mixed with a pair of flat boots or
  2. a silver grey top with heels for a chic evening or party look or
  3. a turtleneck in a darker shade of grey and oxford shoes for a casual day in the city running errands or even an office look

How to match a pair of pants in a colour outside of your typology’s palette?

For the moss green paperbag pants, transitioning would mean to match these with:

  1. the turquoise sweater – again a great choice for a casual look
  2. the lavender silky blouse and grey animal print shoes and coat – a great option for a day in the office followed by drinks (ok, ok, this may be an idealised life)
  3. the tailored silver grey jacket – certainly the go to if you want to look put together. Even though the paperbag pants have usually a more casual design, when you pair them with this jacket, you cannot go wrong. Add in some drama in your animal print shoes and you will achieve any goal you have in mind. Except if some cobblestones are in your way, then I advise you to wear the silver Oxford shoes above.
  4. the muted blue grey blouse and coat – a perfect fit for the green moss pants for a casual look as well if you are not in the mood for turquoise or if saturated colors are not your thing.

I choose a sheer light green top with geometrical prints and I get to keep these pants!

You see, all the tops are in colors suitable for a summer typology! Tadaaa… you get to keep your bottoms! And these can apply to any bottom in your wardrobe.
