Spring 2024 trends to follow when shopping your closet

spring 2024 trends shop your closet

Spring 2024 trends were my inspiration for this ‘shop my closet session’ I share with you this week.

I know most of you follow trends and you know I keep on saying here I don’t. I don’t because I don’t like to be trapped into buying something new just because I see it on everybody else or worse, something that don’t suit my style, my colour typology and does not match my wardrobe. However, inspiring ourselves when we shop our closet from the current spring 2024 trends is not an absolute sin. I think it’s  a clever idea that will help you wear all your clothes. Maybe the trends of this year help you bring back to life garments you did not wear in a while.

These are the spring 2024 trends that inspired me to create outfits from my current wardrobe

1. 90s revived.

What I like about this trend is that it is general, I mean you can choose a lot. You can either go through your 90s pictures, yes, you millenial in your 40s :). I know it can be painful, I did that myself! If you have yet the chance to wear 90s clothes because you were too young then I will stick with discreet chic, no logos, no bold colours. My take on this would be a grey pencil skirt, leather trenchcoats. I had two of those, one of faux-leather made by my tailor, and those big O-ring metal belts, do you remember those? I have none of these items in my wardrobe, so I will rock this trend with a tuxedo boyfriend white shirt worn paired with a navy pair of wool trousers.

2. Craft

Another general trend, which can mean ‘pom-pom adorned net dresses and fringed gowns’. But these may may not be your favourite details on earth. What about ‘crochet or woven raffia details’, maybe a bag? I have a bag I did not wear in a while and some crochet in my closet. These turqouise deux-piece (cropped top and skirt) are made of viscose crochet. I bought it last year from Vinted, before my vacation in Greece. I wore it during the summer as separates, the top more than the skirt and also during my Christmas vacation when I travelled to a sunny destination. The skirt, because it’s transparent is not as versatile, so I wore the top separately more. Check it out in my video how.

3. Sheer layering

Even though sheer fabrics are most of the time usually made of polyester and I stay away from this fabric as much as possible. For environmental considerations but also because it is awfully unbreathable, during the warm months it builds heat inside the garment and next to your skin obviously that makes you sweat and feel extremely uncomfortable. The only alternative for a long time was chiffon silk which came with a higher price. However these days we have other alternatives.  Tencel lyocell is the best alternative, it is a versatile and light fabric, environmentally friendly and looks great. I bought this black shirt in Japan and I wore it all summer long.

4. Girlcore

Girlcore means romantic details like ‘bows, rosettes, ruffles and lace’. If this is a style you like, you probably have plenty of garments to choose from. If not, maybe it’s a pass for you and that’s also fine. Again, you choose the trend that fits your style and your wardrobe. You can choose white pieces, but also other girlcore colour would be mainly pastels: peach, pink, light blue, mint, etc. I honestly think I could pull this mid-length navy dress with my pink bow made from a pair of sneakers’ ribbons I never worn with my sneakers.

5. High rise trousers

YSL presented a grey petrol cargo pants I instantly feel in love with so I think my cargo pants would be the choice for this trend. Have a look below on how to style cargo pants.

6. Metallics

I had this golden leather skirt in my wardrobe that I can luckily style for you. Check the video here.

7. Athletic prep

I tried on a polo shirt the other days when I was preparing a combination of interesting colours in several short videos. But I have never been into the prep style, it was too difficult to pull it off somehow. So initially I thought I would skip this trend. However, I remembered I have a tennis dress, short to remind us of the Miu Miu ruffle skirts but with a polo design in different colours to match what the catwalk showed us for this spring 2024.

8. Rich burgundy

When I see colour as a trend, I don’t immediately jump on it. Because it needs to suit my typology based on the colour analysis I conducted for myself and this is what I advise you as well. Or maybe you do not wear that colour and that’s fine. Now burgundy is a cold shade of red with some purple undertones, so it does suit my skin undertone and natural chromatic features. And below you can see the way I wear rich burgundy
Let me show you how I adapted the spring 2024 trends when shopping my current wardrobe! This means I did not buy new pieces, I worked with what I already own.
