Sapphire blue dress, straw basket and the red flowers you see all over Instagram announcing the summer were my choice for a day in Amsterdam. I was reckoning on the blue sky and weather forecast to try on this tropical look. But Dutch weather is not something you can count on. In the afternoon the sky became cloudy, the wind was blowing and my hair turned into a mess. Perfect for the photo-shooting. But who cared once I had the sapphire blue dress on to match my undertone?
Apparently I do if I share this with you.
I like my summer clothes to be breathable. First check when purchasing clothes is the fabric composition. Gone are the days when polyester was an option. But with 71% cotton in its composition, even if a bit stiff, I had no doubt about this fabric. And it stood the test of a hot summer day in Amsterdam. Even if at a first glance it may look too fancy for a day in the city, its versatility is what I like best in this dress. After the color. If you look closer, you see the hidden pockets which together with the voluminous shape make for a perfect casual outfit. It can easily be worn during the day, at a pianola concert, a brunch and/or a visit at the museum, but also in the evening matched with a pair of tassel earrings and a clutch.
I am not a fan of over-sized dresses because they do not flatter my silhouette. Then what is the reason I am still buying these items? Simply because I liked the color, the fabric and the tailoring. And because I have two secrets. I first try on the smaller size. In most cases it fits me. The second is taming the dress with a belt. Once I manage to highlight my waist, I can conquer the world. Unlike the polyester, this fabric rumples. But what you can see in the pictures are the rumples after a day full of activities. And then the two other fabrics I like to wear in the summer: linen and silk, rumple much more.
I spent the day in Amsterdam in Jordaan, a former artists’ district, and in Moco Museum. Aside from Bansky, the street art’s legend, the exhibition of Salvador Dali focuses also on his involvement in fashion. And this came as a pleasant and intriguing surprise. The surrealist sculpture in the form of a lips sofa by Dali, known as Maw West Lips Sofa inspired this millennial pink clutch. Below I prepared a list with clutches, tassel earrings and shoes that match perfectly the dress I wear. Keep it real and don’t forget to color your week!
