Floral dresses are everywhere in the stores this season. You cannot miss them. The yellow floral print I chose is a great match for the falling leaves on Bredehaven. I have to admit that moving to a different climate made me less meteodependent. So I can embrace fall even when I glance at those luxuriant islands photos on my instagram. I am not craving for summer anymore. Strange?! Living in the Netherlands is like a box of chocolate, you never know what you gonna get: rain, sun, warmth, chill. And it is fine because being dependent on weather can really ruin a mood. No matter where you live or travel. Of course there are other reasons to ruin a mood, but at least I surpassed this superficial one. Right? I am even riding my bicycle in the rain now.
Unlike here, in Romania people still struggle with traffic and lack of bicycle lanes. By the time I was preparing to move to the Netherlands in 2013, bicycle events started to be really popular in Bucharest. A particular one I remember was the skirt bike event. Organized during the only day of the week when the traffic is bearable in Bucharest, a sunny Sunday in the summer, the event brought together a bunch of lovely ladies. They were all wearing dresses and skirts and rode around Bucharest in a chill and colorful ‘protest’. The event aimed to celebrate the independence and empowerment that cycling can provide to all women and to encourage those who don’t already cycle. And because Romanian women really like dresses and skirts, this event came as a reassurance that they did not have to change their chic outfit to ride a bike.
It was then when I discovered Bogdan Deliu, a Romanian graphic designer who was embarking into this new path of leather craftsmanship. The messenger bag called ‘Wheely’ was one of his first designs. It has a double leather layer with hand painted leather on exterior and velvet leather on the interior. The bicycle wheel engraved on its lid and the fact that it could be ordered with an additional bicycle adapter were the reasons I decided I will not move to the Netherlands without Wheely. Four years later, Wheely looks even better. It may be due its new pal, my red Dutch bicycle. Now that I think about it, they form the Romanian flag: red, yellow and blue. Who would have thought? They betray my well hidden patriotism. Keep it colorful!
